The True Art of Kitchen Carts

I enjoy working in my kitchen. Really. I love turning on the radio or listening to my iTunes as I dance around the kitchen and whip up a healthy meal or a cake that will make my kitchen smell heavenly. But it wasn’t always that way. Only a few short months ago, when I lived in a cramped apartment, I cringed every time I entered my kitchen because I didn’t have enough space to do the things that I needed or wanted to do in the way that I like to do them. And there was no need to dance my way across the kitchen, because the other side was only a half-pirouette away. Although I enjoyed the open center of my former kitchen, I would have enjoyed additional counter and storage space even more. I would have really loved to introduce one of the fabulous kitchen carts that I’ve seen sprouting up all over. Too bad we were only renting.

Kitchen carts are a great way to add counter and storage space to your kitchen without undertaking the time and expense of an entire kitchen renovation. In addition to most standard kitchen carts that offer convenient cabinets and drawers, there are many models of kitchen carts that cater to those with specific storage needs. Those who want to store extra vegetables, for example, can do so with ease on a cart that has classy wire baskets. Wine connoisseurs can enjoy a kitchen cart that will store their wine collection securely and conveniently. Other carts offer space for a microwave or a towel rack to keep your towels close at hand. It seems that there is a kitchen cart that can match every kitchen need!

Another thing I love about kitchen carts is the extra counter space that they provide. Keeping appliances off of your main counter by storing them on a kitchen cart is an easy way to make small kitchens look bigger and still keep your appliances accessible. There are even carts that are designed specifically for microwaves! Kitchen carts are also available with drop leaves to create an instant eat-in kitchen (or place for children to do homework) in kitchens that have no room for a formal table.

In addition to the most obvious benefits that kitchen carts offer, I’ve found the true art of kitchen carts to be in their versatility and ability to serve other rooms besides the kitchen. When preparing a barbeque, for example, it’s so much easier to get all of your food and utensils outside when you can just roll it out in one easy motion, instead of making multiple trips. Entertaining guests is a breeze when you can wheel out all of the food at once on a cart that will look as fabulous in the dining room as it does in the kitchen.

With so many benefits and uses of kitchen carts that I’ve come to recognize over time, it’s almost a shame that my kitchen island doesn’t have wheels…
