| Cabinet knobs are not what they used to be. Gone are the days of simply crafted knobs that serve only one purpose, to open a cabinet.
Today’s cabinet knobs come in a myriad of styles and finishes and are crafted for optimum form and function. Specific knob decisions often depend on the
knob’s use, the location in the kitchen, the design and theme, and the existing hardware. Here are three things you probably didn't know about the
modern-day cabinet knob. |

Cabinet Knobs Can Be Used as Art
Decorative cabinet knobs are more than knobs; they are mini sculpted
pieces of artwork. A plain kitchen cabinet is instantly transformed with an interesting square knob or a pyramid shaped knob. These knobs, with their unusual
forms, give depth and texture to the kitchen. It’s always possible, of course, to continue to find your favorite traditional round or oval shaped knob; many of
these throw-backs even contain lovely rope patterns or a swirl cut design. With such a wide diversity of different shaped knobs, it’s easy to find the right
knob for any kitchen’s décor. Try elaborately shaped cabinet knobs to spice up a monotone kitchen; in contrast, use more conservatively shaped cabinet knobs for
a contemporary kitchen or one that already has many competing elements.
Size Matters
Cabinet knobs come in small, medium, and large sizes. This is because knobs are not only used for cabinets, but for drawers. For heavy drawers, select a large
knob or combine a medium sized knob with a cabinet backplate for extra durability. Small knobs are ideal for cutlery drawers and top drawers and make excellent
knobs for the bathroom. Many styles of small knobs are also found in large knobs, such as the Tuscany and Celtic knob. One can, therefore, create a uniform
look by combining small and large knobs of the same style for use in one location.

Cabinet Knobs can Make Food Preparation Easier
Each cabinet knob finish influences the entire décor of the kitchen.
When selecting any finish, consider the existing kitchen colors including those on the cabinets, the floors, and the countertops; similarly, take in mind
the amount of light that enters the kitchen. Is the kitchen dark and in need of a bit of lightening up? If so, then pewter, nickel, and chrome finishes
are recommended for their ability to reflect light. A white or almond colored ceramic knob will also add light to a dark area. In a kitchen with a
traditional or classic look, dark colored finishes, such as black and antique bronze, look the best. These finishes can also be used on light colored
cabinets; their contrast makes an appealing sight. For those that enjoy color and want to add more vitality to the kitchen, colored cabinet knobs such
as red, navy, or multi-color are an excellent choice as well. |
Today’s cabinet knobs are full of life and style. They enable you to add beauty, creativity, and elegance to the kitchen in a cost-effective and relatively easy manner. The only problem will be deciding which one to choose from the plethora of available options!
