Pull-Out Bottom Cabinets

There IS a Better Way to Organize Your Bottom Cabinets!

Digging through an assortment of pots with all different sizes and uses is an exciting activity if you are picking out your first set of cookware or upgrading your existing set. But it is NOT a fun pastime if you are constantly rummaging through your own set of heavy pots just to reach the frying pan that only fits into the cabinet in when placed strategically at the bottom of the pile. It is equally not enjoyable to balance your pots and pans on your knees while you kneel in front of the bottom cabinet and attempt to reach the bundt pan perched at the back of the shelf. Fortunately, pull-out shelving systems are easy to install and allow your pots, pans and other kitchen paraphernalia to come to you, so that you can spend your time cooking and not looking for the perfect utensil. Organizing tips from our experts can help you benefit from cabinets that are not only comfortable to use, but maximize the efficiency of your space.

Chrome pull out shelves come in a variety of sizes and depths. Different models also support different amounts of weight, so that you can stably support everything from cookie sheets to soup pots without worrying that the shelf will collapse under the weight of your utensils. For those who need additional guidance in organizing their cabinetry, these smoothly-sliding shelves can also be purchased with built-in dividers, to help ensure that you keep your frying pans separate from your cake pans.

When reorganizing your cabinets, the first step is to remove all of the contents and discern which are no longer being used frequently. If you can part with them, it is best to throw them out or donate them to someone who can use them. If you think that they can still be useful, find a new home for them in a cabinet on the periphery of the kitchen so they don't occupy prime storage real estate. Dispose of anything that is broken or warped from usage, to make room for the pieces that you use regularly. Then, organize your cooking utensils so that the fit together comfortably, preferably with the most frequently used items on top of the pile and near the front of the cabinet. This will prevent you from having to search for things that should be easily within reach.

Food items such as canned goods, cereal boxes, pasta and other pantry-based items can also benefit from pull-out shelves, which can provide extra space when you want to stock up on the latest sale items. Pull-out shelves in smaller cabinets can also be used to store cleaning supplies such as extra dishwashing liquid, sponges and bleach. Again, donate all of the canned or boxed food items that you never seem to use, and place your favorite or most often used food items where they are easily accessible. If you don't own a spice rack, you may want to take a few extra seconds to place your spices in alphabetical order, so that you will always find the right one in an instant. When organizing your cleaning supplies, it may be useful to store extra stocks of liquid cleaning products in the back of the shelf, so that you won't inadvertently knock the bottles over or spill them when reaching for your steel wool pads. Keeping liquid items neatly tucked away also makes it more difficult for children to accidentally get hold of them.

Finally, narrower cabinets that can't support a pull-out shelf may benefit from a chrome tray divider, a handy organizer that enables all of your trays to stand independently, so that there is no banging, clanging and wrestling with the trays to pull them out or put them back. When each tray stands neatly in its place, you can easily find the one that you want, or survey your options in an organized fashion if you are unsure which tray will best suit your needs. Most importantly, by carefully storing your trays with a secure buffering system, you can ensure that your trays will not chip or crack as you slide them into position.

Although it may seem like a daunting task to reorganize your bottom cabinets, the amount of space and time that you will save by installing pull-out shelving and organizing systems will undoubtedly be worth the effort. Installation is easy - the most difficult part of the task will be deciding what to do with all of the extra space that you discover. You may have an opportunity to add to your collection and rifle through the house wares section after all!
